01How to Start Co-op
Co-op in Revenge of the Savage Planet is 2-player online only — there is no local split-screen. Both players need their own copy of the game. Here's the complete setup process:
🎮 Host or Join from the Main Menu
From the main menu select Co-op, then either Host Session (you control the planet and progress) or Join Friend (you connect to someone else's world). You can also invite via platform friend list from inside an existing session.
PC · PS5 · Xbox · GOG
🌐 Set Session Visibility
As host, choose Friends Only (invite required), Friends of Friends (open to friend network), or Public (anyone can join). Friends Only is recommended — public sessions can be interrupted by strangers at inopportune moments.
🚀 Guest Spawns In Immediately
Once connected, the guest player spawns into the host's current location with full independent movement and controls. There is no camera lock or proximity restriction — both players can explore entirely separately. The session ends if the host disconnects.
⚙️ Guest Keeps Their Own Upgrades
Both players use their own upgrade trees independently. If you join a friend who has Grapple but you don't yet, you still won't have Grapple. This means co-op is most effective when both players are at a similar upgrade level — though an experienced player guiding a new one is a very common and fun dynamic.
💾 Understand What Saves (See Section 02)
Orange Goo and Kindex scans save for both players. Story progress only saves to the host. Read the full save breakdown in the next section before starting a session to avoid surprises.
Critical — read before your first session
💡
Best Starting Point for New Co-op Pairs
Both players should finish the opening sequence of Stellaris Prime solo (roughly 20–30 minutes) before joining up. This ensures both players have the basic controls, know the scan mechanic, and have found the first Upgrade-o-Rama terminal. Jumping into co-op before this means the host constantly waits while the guest learns the UI.
02What Saves for Each Player
This is the question most co-op players ask first — and the most important to understand before starting a session. The short version: collectibles save for both players, story progress saves only for the host.

Host Only |
The guest must replay story missions in their own save. This is the most common co-op frustration. |
| Boss defeats |
✓ Saves |
Host Only |
Boss kills count for the host's story progress. Guest keeps any Goo dropped but not the boss defeat. |

⚠️
The Guest Story Progress Issue
If you join a friend who is further in the story than you, you'll accumulate Goo and scans but won't keep their story milestones. Most co-op pairs handle this by alternating host duties — one player hosts until they catch up, then the other hosts for their catch-up sessions. The Goo advantage from the first session makes the catch-up much faster.

04Best Co-op Role Split
The game is most effective when both players have defined roles rather than both doing the same thing. These two roles cover every combat situation and make boss fights dramatically easier:
🟢
The Binder
Focuses entirely on Binding Goo. Keeps continuous bind pressure on bosses and tough enemies — firing a new bind shot the moment the previous one expires to create an unbroken immobilisation chain.
Primary weapon: Binding Goo only
Key upgrade: Binding Goo Range (essential)
Also handles add-clear with Explosive Goo
Stays mobile, positions from different angles
🟠
The Striker
Pure DPS. Unloads Standard Goo into the weak point during every bind window. Doesn't need to worry about dodging bind shots — just maximise damage output while the Binder keeps the enemy locked down.
Primary weapon: Standard Goo (rapid fire)
Key upgrade: Goo Damage Up (essential)
Focuses weak point exclusively during bind windows
Stays close — range reduces damage falloff
💡
Overlap Strategy for Phase Transitions
During every boss phase transition animation (~2 seconds), both players should fire simultaneously — the Binder fires a bind shot immediately and the Striker follows with rapid Standard Goo. Phase transitions are free damage windows that most players waste by backing away from the boss.
05Co-op Boss Strategies
Each boss has a specific two-player advantage beyond the basic Binder/Striker split. Here's the key tactical info for every fight:
Canoptrix Queen — Easiest Co-op Boss
Designate Binder and Striker immediately. The Binder locks the Queen during her hover phase, the Striker hits the abdomen. In Phase 2 when minions spawn, both players ignore the Queen briefly — one clears minions with Explosive Goo while the other re-binds. This makes the minion wave a non-issue instead of a panic moment.
Straightforward split
Verdant Colossus — Co-op is a Major Advantage
In Phase 3 (underground), one player maintains elevated Grapple position as a safety anchor while the other drops for damage windows. Call out the surface timing — "surfacing" so the elevated player fires the bind shot as the Core Bulb appears. This covers the most dangerous moments where solo players die from being on the ground during the Eruption Slam.
Phase 3 is much easier in co-op
Glacial Warden — The Bind Chain Fight
Phase 3 with two players allows a continuous bind chain — as Player 1's bind expires, Player 2 fires the next one immediately. This keeps the Chest Core permanently exposed for almost the entire phase, compared to the ~2 second window solo players get every 10 seconds. This is the fight where co-op makes the biggest practical difference. Also: one player interrupts Ice Walls with Stomp while the other maintains bind pressure.
Biggest co-op advantage of any boss
Apex Predator — Strict Role Discipline Required
Phase 2 is the critical moment: Player 1 is exclusively Binder (double-bind), Player 2 is exclusively DPS — do not swap roles mid-phase. When adds spawn at 45% HP, the DPS player uses Explosive Goo to clear them in one shot while the Binder immediately re-binds the Apex Predator. In Phase 3 (triple bind), alternate shots: P1 Bind 1 → P2 Bind 2 → P1 Bind 3 → P2 DPS window begins. Communication is everything in this fight.

07General Co-op Tips
📡
Scan Together — Double the Kindex Speed
When both players scan, scans register for both Kindex files simultaneously. Split up and cover different areas — one player does creatures while the other does plants. A 100% Kindex run in co-op takes roughly half the time of solo.
🗺️
Cover Different Sectors Simultaneously
There is no proximity requirement. Split up on each planet — one player explores Sector A while the other goes to Sector C. Goo collected by either player saves to both. This can reduce exploration time by 40–50% compared to staying together.
🪤
Use Two-Player Platform Puzzles
Several areas have platforms that require two simultaneous pressure points or weight-activated triggers. These are impossible solo — they unlock hidden rooms with Goo caches and Kindex entries. Look for blue-glowing pressure plates — these are always two-player interactions.
🎙️
Voice Chat for Boss Fights — Not Just Nice to Have
The Apex Predator and Glacial Warden phase transitions happen fast. Calling out "binding now," "Phase 2," and "adds spawning" in real time prevents both players acting on the same target or missing a damage window. Discord voice in our server has low-latency channels dedicated to co-op sessions.
⚡
Upgrade Coordination — Don't Both Prioritise the Same Tree
If you're playing together consistently, co-ordinate upgrades. If one player prioritises Binding Goo Range, the other should stack Goo Damage Up. There's no benefit in both players having the same upgrade emphasis — complementary builds create far more effective teams.
FAQCo-op FAQ
⌄How do you start co-op in Revenge of the Savage Planet?
From the main menu, select Co-op → Host Session or Join Friend. Both players need their own copy of the game. There is no local split-screen — co-op is online only. Once connected, the guest spawns immediately into the host's current location.
⌄Can you play all 4 planets in co-op?
Yes — the entire campaign across all four planets is playable in co-op. Both players can join at any point. The host's story progress determines which planets are available; the guest can participate in any content the host has unlocked.
⌄Does the guest player keep their Orange Goo?
Yes, permanently. Orange Goo collected during a co-op session saves to both players' files immediately. If you spend 3 hours helping a friend and collect 200 Goo, you keep all 200 Goo in your own save. This is the biggest practical benefit of co-op even if you're helping someone further in the story than you.
⌄Is Revenge of the Savage Planet better solo or co-op?
Both are genuinely excellent experiences. Co-op is better for: boss fights, Kindex completion speed, two-player-only platform puzzles, and the game's humour (the corporate satire lands harder with someone to share it with). Solo is better for: immersive exploration pacing, full story focus, and when you want to go at your own speed without waiting. The game was designed to work brilliantly in either mode.
⌄What happens if the host disconnects mid-session?
The session ends immediately when the host disconnects. All Goo collected, scans completed, and upgrades purchased during the session are saved for both players up to the last autosave checkpoint. The game autosaves frequently — typically every 3–5 minutes — so data loss is minimal. If you're the guest and know the host is about to disconnect, make sure you've spent any Goo you want to lock in first.
